Our Adopted Residents
Sonu is 6 years old. Before living in the New Beginnings Clinic, he lived in Sector 10 of Faridabad. His lost both of his parents a few years ago. Like many child laborers, he has worked various jobs, often sleeping at the work sites, or with relatives of his co-workers. One of his favorite aspects of the New Beginnings Clinic is the food. He loves roti, an Indian bread, and is happy he can eat as many as he wishes. He wants to be a doctor when he grows up. By sponsoring his education, we plan to help him achieve his dream.
Anil is 12 years old. His father passed away some time ago, and he lived with his mother prior to moving in to the New Beginnings Clinic. Anil did not attend school; instead, he worked to provide for his family. He says that his bosses often mistreated him, but that he learned how to survive. Anil's mother wanted him to live with us, so that we could provide him with healthcare and education. Anil wants to be a doctor when he grows up. We are working with Anil and his mother to make this dream a reality.
Sumit wants to be a scientist when he grows up. Prior to moving to the New Beginnings Clinic, Sumit lived in Sector 7 of Faridabad with his mother. His father passed away a long time ago. Due to being unable to provide for Sumit, his mother had us adopt him. We encourage Sumit's mother to visit him frequently. Sumit suffers from osteomalacia, a condition that causes softening of the bones due to vitamin D and calcium deficiency. As a result of his soft bones, Sumit cannot walk and is prone to deformities and medical complications. Sumit's mother had us promise that we would provide him with proper nutrition and medical care. We intend to fulfill that promise.
Ajay is 9 years old. Both of his parents have passed away. He was working for his uncle, who made him work at least 10 hours per day. Ajay wants to be a doctor. When we interviewed him, we were all struck by his sense of humor and insight. He loves playing with the other boys and is known as the prankster of the group.
Rajat is the oldest member of our New Beginnings Clinic. He is 12 years old. Prior to living in our clinic, he lived in Sector 20 of Faridabad. He lost his father at a young age due to a motor vehicle accident. He recently lost his mother. Prior to losing his mother, Rajat was attending a private school. After his mother passed away, Rajat moved in with other family, who refused to sponsor education or provide him with proper nutrition. They forced him to work all day instead. The other boys look up to him in the clinic. He cares for them as though they were his younger brothers.
Akash is 10 years old. Both of his parents passed away, and since their passing he has slept in various places in Sector 10 of Faridabad. He has worked various jobs. He wishes to be either a pirate or a doctor when he grows up. At IndoRelief, we will work our hardest to make sure he may grow up to be whatever he desires to be, though we will probably encourage him to pursue medicine over piracy. Akash excels at chess playing. In fact, his favorite past time is playing chess with the other boys. On his most recent visit to India, Sant Kumar of IndoRelief learned a few tips and tricks from Akash.
Kunal is a very thoughtful and calm boy. We found Kunal crying outside of the slum in which he lives because he does not have a safe place to sleep. When we interviewed him, he spoke of his ambition to become a doctor, so that he could other children in the slum. He told us many times, "I want to help them. They're like me." Kunal is an exceptional young man.
