New partnership!

Our volunteers came home a little less than one week ago, excited, exhausted, and missing India. While in India, they did some great work. This included holding multiple health camps, meeting new patients, and reviewing applicants for the New Beginnings Clinic.

One of the exciting new partnerships we formed while in India is with the Sanjay Public Colony School. We have agreed to provide continued healthcare for their students and their families. This is a daunting challenge for us here at IndoRelief, but with hard work and the continued support of our donors, we have no doubt that we can accomplish this task!

The Sanjay Public Colony School is located in Faridabad, India. Its students live in the Sanjay Colony slum. We were overwhelmed by their playfulness and curiosity. Read more about this partnership on our front page and don't forget to share! It's because of your support that IndoRelief is reaching 500 patients helped!

Raeann Iannello from New Haven, CT is orange, are you?

Being orange is about people and their families; it's about the fact that everyone deserves quality healthcare regardless of where they were born or where they live; it's about showing solidarity and working together to accomplish this goal. So take a picture with something orange and post it with the hashtag #beorange #indorelief. Together we can raise awareness about this issue and help people around the world get the healthcare they deserve!

Night Shelter update

We want to thank everyone for their support of the Night Shelter these past few months. To date we have now provided housing for 31 men, women, and children. Through the Night Shelter, our residents are supplied with a bed, toiletries, food, and health check ups. We also work hard to connect our residents with local businesses so that they have employment opportunities available to them after they leave the shelter. To learn about the Night Shelter and see pictures of some of our residents visit http://www.indorelief.org/night-shelter/

Stay tuned for more updates!

Updates

Hey everyone,

It's been very busy these past few weeks at IndoRelief, but we're happy to announce that we've officially opened the Mental Peace clinic! We've partnered with local psychologists to help individuals suffering from mental illnesses and to raise awareness about the importance of mental health in India. When speaking with locals in Faridabad and Delhi, we realized that everyone knows a friend or family member suffering from depression and anxiety. However, because of the stigma related to mental illness, no one talks about it. Part of the mission of the Mental Peace clinic is to let people know that it is OK to have a mental illness and that help can be received and people can get better. We're extremely excited about this so thank you for your support!

We're also continuing to supply vaccinations to children, as well as starting a clothing drive to help provide blankets and clothing to the homeless. Thank you all for your help! Every donation, post, comment, and share goes a long way!

Month in Review

Hey all,

It's been an incredibly busy month for IndoRelief! We've expanded our social media presence on facebook and instagram, accumulating over 1000 followers between the two. Thank you for spreading the word! In order to come up with a solution, people need to first learn about the problem -- this is a great start in letting people know what is going on in India and how we can help!

We also opened our Night Shelter. We're now providing beds, food, and medicine to 27 people everyday free of cost. To learn more about our Night Shelter, check out the Projects tab of our website.

IndoRelief has now helped 223 individuals, providing free medical care and housing. This is a tremendous accomplishment, especially for an organization so young. We could not have done any of this without your continued support -- every donation, like, and share has made the difference. Thank you!

Along with continuing to sponsor patient care, we also have some great projects coming up so stay tuned!

Measles Outbreak

IMG_0470.JPG

Below is a great article highlighting the troubling rise in measles in the US. Unfortunately, measles is an even bigger problem in India, where most children do not get vaccinated for it. You can help change that by contributing to Project Vaccinate! We not only provide the measles vaccination, but also pneumococcal conjugate vaccines, polio vaccines, and vaccination for tuberculosis.

Amit

In India we've met many interesting people who make a living any way they can. Amit (pictured above) looks through piles of garbage every morning for things he can sell. He takes what he finds, cleans it, and attempts to sell it later in the day. This is not unusual for salesmen like Amit. To read more about the people we've met while being here, check back to our blog
